According To The Story, The Germans Had Broken An American Naval Code And So Obtained Prior Knowledge Of The Upcoming Allied Summit Meeting At The Beginning Of 1943. The Sd Came Up With A Plan To Eliminate All Three Allied Leaders And Hitler Gave It The Go Ahead. Otto Skorzney Was To Lead A Group Of German Commandos Who Would Actually Carry Out The Operation, Assisted By A German Spy Ring Already In Place. However Soviet Intelligence Got Wind Of The Plot And Rounded Up The German Spies In Tehran Causing The Operation To Be Called Off. That Is The Russian Version Of What Is Claimed To Have Occurred. However, The British Had Already Rounded Up All Of The German Spies And Sympathizers Long Before The Conference Was Planned And The Soviets Got Their Replacements When Parachuted In From Germán Territory. In His Memoires Skorzany Said That The Operation Was Given Little Credence And When He Reported To Hitler That The Entire Thing Was Completely Unfeasible, Hitler Agreed And It Was Cancelled, Having Never Got Beyond The Planning Stage. Some Historians Claim That The Whole Story Was A Fabrication Of The Soviet Intelligence Service Intended To Raise Their Prestige With Stalin, Others Claim That The Planned Operation Did Occur But The Would Be Assassins Did Not Get As Far As Tehran.
